Membership

NMAG’s membership currently stands at 58 grantmaking organizations. Of that, half are Family Foundations. Independent Foundations comprise 15%, and Community Foundations make up another 10%. The remaining members are comprised of Corporate Funders, Donor Advised Funds, Governmental Funders, Public Charities, and one each of the following: Giving Circle, Federated Fund, Operating Foundation and Individual. While our membership only makes up about 20% of the funders in the state, it is a representative selection and widely scattered throughout New Mexico.
They represent diverse grantmaking interests including the environment; education; health and human services; children and youth; the arts and humanities; economic development; and international grantmaking.
Benefits of membership in NMAG include:
- opportunities for networking amongst peer colleagues
- personalized assistance with research and reference questions opportunities to meet national leaders in philanthropy
- programs on topical issues facing the field
- up-to-date information on national trends in philanthropy
- a special section of the website for members only
- the NMAG Quarterly newsletter
- a statewide conference; affinity groups of funders with similar interests
- a resource library with publications related to grantmaking, governance and management
- NMAG’s access to the national Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers’ programs and KnowledgeBase
- access to current information about changing community needs, emerging trends in the nonprofit sector, new regulations, and promising new grantmaking strategies.
Membership Criteria:
- NMAG membership is open to individual philanthropists and philanthropic organizations headquartered or with giving programs in New Mexico.
- The principal function of each member is the making of charitable grants.
- The member’s purpose for joining NMAG is a desire to improve its grantmaking.
- Organizations will not use their membership in NMAG to solicit donations.
- Members will honor rules of confidentiality regarding their peer colleagues.
- Members award at least $25,000 annually in New Mexico.
